Nafis Sadik is Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General and Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Asia and the Pacific.
She joined the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 1971 and was one of the highest ranking women at the UN, serving as UNFPA’s Executive Director between 1987 and 2000. Nafis was earlier Pakistan's Director-General of the Central Family Planning Council responsible for developing, preparing and evaluating the country’s health and family planning programme.
In 2003, Nafis was appointed a member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change. She is also Commissioner at the Global Commission on International Migration, and a member of the International Task Force on Global Public Goods.
