3ie's thematic windows fund studies in a specific sector, or sub-sector, or which address a particular question or set of questions.
A thematic window may also include systematic reviews with a similar focus. 3ie conducts thematic windows in response to demand from funders wishing to expand global public knowledge of what works with respect to that theme.
About Thematic Windows
A thematic window usually starts with a scoping study which examines what evidence is already available and studies currently underway. The findings of the scoping feed into a consultation with Southern policymakers and other stakeholders to identify the focus of the thematic window.
A Request for Proposal is issued. The first round may be an Expression of Interest. The second round may sharpen the focus depending the nature of the EOIs received.
Once all studies are completed, a single report may be produced summarizing the evidence of what works and why.
We regret to announce that the planned thematic window on demining has been cancelled. We do not plan to launch a window on demining in the near future.
