Community-based intervention packages for reducing maternal morbidity and mortality and improving neonatal outcomes

May 2011

The review by Zohra S. Lassi et al. offers encouraging evidence of the value of integrating maternal and newborn care in community settings through a range of interventions which can be packaged for delivery by community health workers and health promotion groups. Acknowledging that skilled delivery and facility-based services for maternal and newborn care is important, they conclude that there is sufficient evidence to also scale up community-based care.
