Authors piloted a door-to-door offer of a choice between counselor-provided finger-prick rapid HIV testing, or oral HIV self-testing in the presence or absence of the counselor. Household distribution of HIV self-testing in communities exposed to door-to-door HIV testing increased knowledge of current HIV status, which was driven by an effect among men.
