Improving ART adherence at reproductive and child health clinics integrating Option B+ in Tanzania
Impact evaluation report 59
John Chalker
This randomised controlled evaluation looked at whether orienting staff at reproductive and child health (RCH) clinics improves patient appointment attendance rates. These RCH facilities adopted ‘Option B +,’ a treatment which for the first time, is being administered outside of specialised HIV clinics.
The results demonstrated that the manual system of appointment tracking was low cost and relatively simple to implement. It also significantly improved appointment-keeping and consistent availability of antiretroviral medicines as well.
