Authors assessed whether peer educators promoting HIV self-tests increased HIV testing among female sex workers in transit towns. Nearly 90 per cent of the control group, who were referred to standard facility-based testing, received a test. HIV self-tests, overall however, did not make a difference to HIV testing rates.
