The pilot study in Tanzania targeted men between 20 to 34 years of age at VMMC clinics where nationally set targets were not met. Clients, peer promoters and healthcare providers were offered the opportunity to enter smartphone raffles as an incentive to promote VMMC uptake. Researchers found no impact of the intervention on the uptake of VMMC, which points to a strong need for programme managers and policymakers to devise incentive strategies that respond to each situation.
