How should Tanzania use its natural gas? Citizens’ views from a nationwide Deliberative Poll

In 2010, Tanzania discovered natural gas reserves off its southern coast worth roughly 15 times its annual gross domestic product. A central challenge for the government was to ensure that the resulting windfall of resource revenues strengthened rather than undermined their democratic systems. This impact evaluation assesses whether making information available to citizens through deliberative polling exercises about how to use gas revenues affects decision-making at the political level.
