Water, sanitation and hygiene interventions to combat childhood diarrhoea in developing countries
3ie Systematic review 01
Hugh Waddington, Birte Snilstveit, Howard White, Lorna Fewtrell
This systematic review by Hugh Waddington, et al. finds that point of use water treatment, improved sanitation and hygiene interventions are effective in reducing diarrhoeal disease among children. The study highlights the importance of behavioural factors in determining up-take and sustainable adoption of water, sanitation and hygiene interventions. Preventive interventions tend to be adopted more slowly as benefits are difficult to observe and there is a need for more research on the sustainability of these interventions.
