Anil Thota

Anil provides technical leadership and support on the prioritization, development, and execution of a wide portfolio of evidence synthesis products at 3ie. His roles include capacity building, professional development, strategic planning, partnership building, and thinking about innovation to further 3ie’s work in evidence synthesis.

Until recently, he worked with the UNICEF Office of Research - Innocenti as an evidence synthesis team lead on multiple projects such as an evidence and gap map on interventions for children with disabilities, the impact of social and behavioural interventions as part of cash transfers and as part of parenting interventions to prevent violence against children. Before that he worked with the Campbell Collaboration where he worked on evidence and gap maps in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights and child protection.

Prior to this, he was acting branch chief for the Community Guide Branch at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Community Guide Branch (CGB) is dedicated to examining the evidence on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of complex public health and healthcare interventions and strategies. He has also worked at Health Quality Ontario (2016-2017) as Manager of Clinical Reviews within the Evidence Development and Standards unit. In that role he oversaw a team of 13 clinical epidemiologists in the conduct of health technology assessments (HTAs) in collaboration with economists and patient engagement specialists.

Anil has a medical degree (MBBS) from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India), a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University (USA) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Evidence-based Health care from the University of Oxford (UK). He is currently a second year DrPH student at the University of Toronto.
