Dr Monica Jain has more than 20 years of experience in the development sector leading research focusing on immunization, early child development, nutrition, poverty and health. At 3ie, she manages and leads a global portfolio of policy-relevant mixed-methods evaluations and evidence synthesis. She currently leads the immunization evidence program, including the GAVI-funded Formative Review and Baseline Study of the COVAX Facility and Advance Market Commitment (AMC) from the 3ie side. She is also leading the design of impact evaluation for assessing the effectiveness of the best practice toolkit for teachers for early childhood development across India, Senegal and Indonesia for UKRI GCRF 'Action against Stunting Hub' program.
Jain has been involved in various working groups and advisory councils in immunization, including the WHO reference group for developing tools to measure behavioral and social drivers (BeSD) of HPV vaccination; WHO working group for the development of tools for BeSD measures of childhood vaccination uptake; advisory council for Vaccine Confidence Fund, funded by Facebook and Merck; and the advisory board of Suvita, a non-profit to expand immunization coverage in India.
Before joining 3ie, Monica worked at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington, DC, where she analyzed food and nutrition security issues, especially those pertaining to children and women. She has also worked at the World Bank’s Poverty Reduction and Economic Management unit in New Delhi where she provided technical support in strengthening the poverty and social monitoring systems in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka and in the design and implementation of national government’s project for strengthening the statistical system. She has published in leading development economics and public health journals such as Economic Development and Cultural Change, World Development, BMJ Open, and Plos One.
Jain holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Riverside in the US, and an MPhil and Masters in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, India.
