Vitor Pereira

Vitor Pereira is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Economics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and an Affiliated Professor at the National School of Public Administration (ENAP). 

Vitor has extensive experience designing and implementing rigorous evaluations to inform public policy, with a strong focus on education, early childhood and social protection. He previously served as Director of Evaluation at the Brazilian Ministry of Social Development, where he led the development of large-scale randomized control trials. His research has also directly supported the design of major government initiatives, including the Pé-de-Meia savings program for high school students. 

His work covers a range of topics including early childhood interventions, school dropout and retention, signaling in labor markets, human capital accumulation, teacher incentives, school choice, social program evaluation and agriculture. In particular, Vitor´s recent research focuses on understanding how early investments, education systems, and social programs shape human capital accumulation and economic mobility. He is passionate about bridging rigorous academic research and practical policymaking, frequently advising governments and international organizations. Vitor holds a Ph.D. in Economics from PUC-Rio, with a split-site sandwich PhD at Stanford University."
