Since 2014, 3ie’s impact evaluation repository (IER) has been a comprehensive database of published impact evaluations of development programmes in low- and middle-income countries. We call the database comprehensive because we build it from a systematic search and screening process that covers over 35 indexes and websites and screens for all development programme evaluations or experiments that use a counterfactual method for estimating net impact.

What’s first for replication studies is what’s next for 3ie’s replication programme

Many consider pure replication, where the replication researcher starts with the original data set and writes code to recreate the published results according to the methods described in the publication, to be the second step in replication analysis. So, what is the first?

How to insitutionalize evaluation?

Learning summary Brief 3ie PDF icon 2009
Policy-makers are experimenting with billions of people’s lives on a daily basis without informed consent, and without rigorous evidence that what they do works, does not harm, and could not be achieved more efficiently through other means. In this context, carefully designed and implemented evaluations have the potential to save lives and improve people’s welfare.

Using evidence for better practices

News 2018

In this blog, Axel Vande veegaete (Belgian Red Cross-Flanders), a 3ie grantee, wrote about the helpful evidence from a 3ie-funded systematic review which examined which promotional approaches are effective in changing handwashing and sanitation behaviour and which implementation factors affect the success or failure of such interventions.
