Youth gang membership and violence in low- and middle-income countries: A systematic review (Part I)
3ie Systematic Review 29
This review by Higginson and colleagues is the first of a two part systematic review that examines the predictors of youth participation in gangs and preventative measures to youth gang-related violence in low- and middle-income countries. This review is based on a very small number of studies, and has significant limitations in coverage; however it provides some limited evidence of the correlates of youth gang membership. Specifically, researchers suggest factors that may drive gang membership and areas where interventions may prove promising in the family, school, and community domains.
This review and the second part, Youth gang violence and preventative measures in low- and middle-income countries: a systematic review (Part II) are both available on the 3ie website.
