Mapping the evidence on sexual and reproductive health and rights in L&MICs

Sexual and reproductive rights are human rights, and the right to make sexual and reproductive decisions affects sexual and reproductive health. To understand the extent of the evidence on sexual and reproductive health and rights, and inform decision-making, 3ie is developing an evidence gap map (EGM).

Therefore, Norad is inviting organisations with an agreement with Norad to apply for participation in a 3-day impact evaluation incubator on December 4–6. This event will be organized by Norad in cooperation with Development Learning Lab (DLL) & 3ie.

In 2019, 269 million children under five, 32 million pregnant women, and over half a billion women of reproductive age were reported to be affected by anaemia. The condition causes adverse health outcomes, delayed cognitive and physical development in children, and reduced productivity which may lead to economic losses

Alison Mildon is a public health nutrition practitioner and researcher based in Toronto, Canada. She has over twenty years of population health experience supporting the development and implementation of evidence-based programmes and policies to improve maternal and child nutrition and health outcomes in a variety of countries. Alison is a Registered Dietitian and received her Masters and PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto.

Daniel Lopez de Romaña joined Nutrition International in 2017 and is currently the Technical Advisor for Fortification Data, Research and Evidence.

In this role, Daniel identifies gaps in existing data, and builds projects and collaborations to fill these gaps. He develops new research to advance fortification activities, and synthesizes and disseminates evidence to improve nutrition and health for adults and children, with a focus on women and adolescent girls.

Evaluating agriculture in Niger using remotely-sensed data: preliminary lessons

Authors of this brief share preliminary lessons from an ongoing evaluation of Niger’s Agricultural Production Intensification for Food Security Project (PIPA/SA) which aims to increase irrigated and rain-fed crop production. Since the intervention areas are remote and hard to survey, the West African Development Bank (BOAD) commissioned 3ie and New Light Technologies to use remotely sensed data to analyze various program outcomes, including changes in production, water availability, siltation and desertification.

Launch of 3ie’s policy and institutional reform ‘Methods Menu’

In May 2021, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and 3ie began a partnership to advance the learning and knowledge base around the evaluation, design, and implementation of policy and institutional reform (PIR) interventions. We conducted a scoping review that identified gaps in the way PIR interventions are studied and evaluated, and we are now ready to launch an interactive ‘Methods Menu’ that aims to address many of those gaps. The menu aims to increase awareness and uptake of complexity-informed and mixed-methods approaches to strengthen the way PIR is evaluated and implemented.
