Making evidence accessible

This paper synthesises key lessons from seven impact evaluations of these initiatives in the extractives sector. The synthesis shows that providing information alone may not be sufficient. Instead, information combined with deliberations positively affect knowledge, trust and demand for accountability.

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Social Security Pension are two of the largest employment programmes in Andhra Pradesh. Muralidharan and colleagues (2016) investigated the impacts of biometrically-authenticated payment infrastructure (Smartcards) on beneficiaries of the two employment programmes.

This study evaluated the impact of a set of reforms to the environmental clearance process in India, which included subjecting larger projects to scrutiny from regulators, independent experts and the public.

This brief is based on the findings of an impact evaluation that examined the effects of the Appui au Développement du Menabe et du Melaky programme in Madagascar, which combined land titling with improved irrigation infrastructure.

This evaluation showed that delivery of drugs by community health workers to clinically stable patients is not inferior to standard care, where patients visit a clinic-based doctor to refill prescriptions.
